The best source for truck drivers is, believe it or not, truck drivers!
Your current employees can be ambassadors of your trucking company to potential drivers. They know what your expectations are and can find like-minded individuals for you.
When your driver tells a prospective driver what it is like to work for you, it is authentic. It’s one thing for you to say in an ad that you have great pay, great home time, etc. But most drivers don’t believe you because they’ve been burned by other trucking companies before telling them the exact same thing.
When a fellow driver tells them, it is real and much more believable. The prospective driver will feel more comfortable asking them what it is like to work at your trucking company and if they like the answers they will be more likely to stay.
That’s the trick, right? The key is to ask them, it’s that simple. Pull the driver into your office and ask them in person:
“We are so happy you’ve chosen to work with us and we would really like to find more drivers like you. Can you keep an eye open for them and send them to us?”
You can offer a reward for truck drivers who give you leads, but we would advise that you don’t pay the incentive until the new truck driver has worked for you for at least 90 days.
